Dr Kumar is a consultant psychiatrist in community psychiatry and crisis resolution and home treatment team working at The Railings, Rugby. He worked as a clinical lead and consultant addiction psychiatrist for Warwickshire Substance Misuse Services, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust at Woodleigh Beeches Centre from 2001 to 2011. He was responsible for providing inpatient treatment services such as detoxification and stabilisation for various drugs and alcohol and outpatient treatment services for alcohol and various drugs including heroin, cocaine, crack, cannabis, amphetamines and benzodiazepines. He also treated patients with chronic pain who got addicted to opiate based painkillers.
He has a special interest in treating patients with dual problems of drugs and alcohol misuse and mental health problems such as insomnia, anxiety disorders and depression.
He has huge experience of treating all types of mental health problems using effective and evidence based treatments.
After completing his medical and psychiatric training in India, Dr Kumar did his psychiatric training with Dorset Health Care Trust and became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1997. He completed his higher psychiatric training in Leicester and admitted to specialist register (CCST) in 2000 in General Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry.. He was awarded MSc in Addictive Behaviour with distinction from St George’s Hospital Medical School, University of London in 2000.
